Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

International Couples

Yes, you can get married in Byron Bay even if you are not an Australian citizen or resident.

You do not need to be

  • an Australian citizen
  • a permanent resident
  • living in New South Wales

Tourists, visa holders, interstate couples, and overseas couples can all marry here if they meet the legal requirements.

What you still need

  • a Notice of Intended Marriage
  • the right identity documents
  • translations if documents are not in English
  • divorce or death documents if relevant
  • physical presence in Australia for the marriage itself

Good to know

  • marriage does not automatically give you visa rights
  • we can help with the marriage paperwork, but not migration advice
  • the marriage itself cannot happen online

If you are overseas when starting

You can still:

  • book online
  • prepare the NOIM
  • have the notice witnessed correctly
  • send the paperwork through

If you are unsure about witnessing from overseas, ask us before you sign anything.
