Why couples book us

The easy way to get legally married

Built for couples who want to be married without turning it into a production.

Private celebrants, not government

We provide a private celebrant service in Byron Bay. It is registry-style, but it is not run by Births, Deaths and Marriages or any other government office.

Cheap and clear

Our service is designed to be affordable, low-fuss, and easy to understand. Clear price, simple process, professional help.

Paperwork only

No aisle. No guest event. No personalised ceremony. Just the legal words, the signing, and the registration of your marriage.

Helpful with the NOIM

We help you get the paperwork right, including your Notice of Intended Marriage.

Witness help available

Bring your own two witnesses aged 18 or over, or book our witness service if you need a hand.

Need something bigger?

If you want an elopement or a full ceremony with guests, use Josh Withers instead.

What this is

A simple legal marriage appointment

You are getting married, not staging a wedding

This service exists for couples who want the legal marriage without the extra noise.

Short and straightforward

Most appointments are brief. You meet us, say the required legal words, sign the documents, and that is it.

Done properly

We handle the legal paperwork professionally and register the marriage after it takes place.

Local and flexible

We can meet in Byron Bay and across the Northern Rivers, subject to availability and the paperwork being received in time.

Clear expectations make everything easier

Not a full wedding ceremony

We do not offer aisle moments, guest seating, personal ceremony writing, or a styled wedding experience on this site.

Not an elopement brand

If you want beautiful locations, a more personal feel, and a fuller experience, book Elopement Collective.

Not your only option in the network

We are part of the Australian Marriage Offices network, helping couples who want simple legal marriages around the country.

Still warm and professional

Cheap does not mean careless. We keep things low-cost, helpful, and professional from start to finish.

How the process works

This is the customer journey for our paperwork-only marriage service.

Step 1: Click Get Married

Start with the booking form at paperwork.net.au/book and pay the fee.

Step 2: Prepare your NOIM

Complete your Notice of Intended Marriage. NOIM Easy walks you through it step by step and creates a ready-to-print PDF.

Step 3: Have the NOIM witnessed

The NOIM needs to be signed correctly before an authorised witness. We can help you understand who can witness it and what else you need to send.

Step 4: Send us the paperwork

Once we receive the paperwork, we check it and then confirm a date, time and place based on when it arrived and our availability.

Step 5: Meet, sign, and get married

Bring two witnesses aged 18 or over, or use our witness service. We do the legal words and signatures, then we register the marriage.

Simple process for getting married

Legal requirements

What you need

The legal basics, in plain language.

One month notice

You need to give a Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month before the marriage date, unless a shortening of time is approved.

Both of you must be there

You cannot get legally married online or by proxy. The couple, celebrant, and two witnesses all need to be physically present.

Two adult witnesses

You need two witnesses aged 18 or over. If you do not have them, ask about our witness service.

ID and supporting documents

You will need proof of identity, proof of date and place of birth, and divorce or death documents if either of you has been married before.

In-person check before the marriage

Before the marriage is solemnised, the law requires the celebrant to meet each of you separately and in person.

Translation help if needed

If either of you or your documents are not in English, extra translation or interpreter steps may be needed.
