Interpreters and Translators

If either of you does not understand English well enough, or if your documents are not in English, extra language support may be needed.

Document translations

If a document is not in English, you will usually need:

• the original document
• an official English translation

In Australia, NAATI-accredited translators are the standard option.

Interpreters for the marriage

If either party cannot understand the legal parts of the marriage well enough in English, an interpreter may be required.

That interpreter must meet the legal and paperwork requirements for the role.

Why this matters

Marriage requires real understanding and real consent.

If language is a barrier, we need to deal with that properly before the marriage goes ahead.

Translation and interpreter arrangements can take time.
